InfieldHQ vs SkillShark

No per-athlete fee, and no bill in the off-season.

SkillShark is free for your first 25 players and $5 an athlete a year after that, with report cards families can read. It's a good deal, and for a small tryout it beats us on price. Past 25 players it's $750 a year for a league of 150, billed every year. We're $50 for the month you run the tryout.

Your first two tryouts are free. Then $50 a month, cancel any time.

InfieldHQ

$50 a month, and only the months you run tryouts

A rec league or club that wants a real multi-station tryout this weekend, and wants the results to turn into teams in the same app that then runs the season.

SkillShark

Free for 25 players, then $5 to $15 per athlete a year

A club that wants athlete report cards and progress tracking across 30-plus sports, and would rather pay per athlete than sign a four-figure contract.

What SkillShark does better

Three things, and the first one is on their free tier.

Report cards, with video in them

Every athlete gets a report card, on every tier including the free one, and video can sit inside it. There's an AI swing score add-on from the $10 tier. We produce a ranked list for the people running the tryout and publish nothing to families. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

Progress from one tryout to the next

Player progress reports, player comparisons and athlete self-assessments, from the $10 tier. Each InfieldHQ tryout stands alone today, so improvement between them is something you'd have to eyeball yourself. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

Thirty-plus sports, and officials too

Baseball through curling, plus referee and official evaluations. We do softball and baseball. If your organization evaluates more than one sport, that's the whole decision. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

And a fair word on price: their free tier is genuinely free, not a 14-day trial. It's 25 players, which is smaller than most single age groups, but if that's your whole tryout then SkillShark costs nothing forever and gives you a report card we don't have. We'd pick them for that league and we'll say so.

Where the two part ways

Everything both do the same way, the rubric templates, ranked results and data export included, is on the full comparison.

Tryout day

Cold hands, a dead spot in the parking lot, and a volunteer who has never seen the app.

Scoring where there is no signal

InfieldHQ: Yes.
In the browser, with no app on anyone’s phone. Open the scoring link while you still have signal and it keeps going: scores queue on the device and send themselves when signal returns, including after half an hour in a dead spot.
SkillShark: Partly.
Yes, but in the downloadable app rather than the browser. Scores are submitted once you reconnect.

Checking players in

InfieldHQ: Yes.
Tap a name on the session roster. The check-in flips instantly and rolls back if the server refuses it, with the reason on screen.
SkillShark: Partly.
Player check-in starts on the $10 All-Star tier.

Turning scores into a decision

Sunday night, when somebody has to publish a list and defend it.

Changing the weights after you see the ranking

InfieldHQ: Yes.
Retune the weights and preview the ranking that candidate would produce before you commit it. What you approve is exactly what applies.
SkillShark: Partly.
Weighted reports from the $5 tier. No published preview-before-apply step.

A report card the family reads

InfieldHQ: No.
No. Results are for the people running the tryout. Nothing is published to parents.
SkillShark: Yes.
Ready-to-use athlete report cards, on every tier including the free one.

Video and photos of the athlete

InfieldHQ: No.
No. Scores and notes only.
SkillShark: Yes.
Video support in report cards, and an AI Swing Score add-on on the $10 tier.

Evaluation history across seasons

InfieldHQ: No.
No. Each tryout stands alone today.
SkillShark: Yes.
Player progress and comparison reports, from the $10 tier.

What happens after the tryout

The part every evaluation-only product hands back to you.

Running the season the teams then play

InfieldHQ: Yes.
Schedule, attendance, batting order and field positions, the parent side, and walk-up songs. Same app, same login, no export step.
SkillShark: No.
Not what it does. Evaluations only, with integrations out to a team-management platform.

What it costs

A 150-player rec league, running a tryout weekend in February.

Entry price

InfieldHQ: $50 a month.
Flat, at any league size. Your first two tryouts are free, so most leagues score a full weekend before they pay anything.
SkillShark: Free, then $5.
Free for your first 25 players. After that $5 per athlete a year, sold in blocks of 25.

Paying for the ten months you are not running tryouts

InfieldHQ: You do not.
Cancel when the tryout is over, start again next season. Your rubrics, your players and last season’s results are still there when you come back.
SkillShark: Yearly.
Per athlete, per year, auto-renewing at the anniversary.

Charges per athlete

InfieldHQ: None.
$50 is $50 at 40 players or at 1,000. No blocks, no bands, and no re-quote when the league grows.
SkillShark: $5 to $15 each.
150 players is $750 a year at the entry tier, or $2,250 at Legend.

What one tryout season actually costs

InfieldHQ: $0, then $50.
The first two tryouts are free. After that a February weekend is one month of setup and scoring, so $50. Two seasons a year is $100.
SkillShark: $750.
150 athletes at $5 each, billed annually.

Whether it fits your league at all

The questions that rule a product out before any feature matters.

Sports it covers

InfieldHQ: Partly.
Softball and baseball. The starter rubrics are built for them, down to 8U.
SkillShark: Yes.
More than 30 sports, from baseball to curling. They also evaluate officials.

Phones it runs on

InfieldHQ: Coming.
iPhone today, and any phone through the browser, which is how evaluators score. The Android app lands before September.
SkillShark: Yes.
iOS and Android apps, plus web.

Who you call when it breaks on tryout morning

InfieldHQ: Partly.
Email us. We are small, and you will get a person, but there is no dedicated success manager.
SkillShark: Yes.
A Customer Success Manager from the $5 tier up.
The InfieldHQ evaluations page on a computer: an open 12U tryout with a readiness strip (three sessions, 20 players, seven evaluators, all six stations covered), a scoring-is-open banner, and the schedule of tryout sessions.

Switching

Run the next tryout here and compare the rankings

There's nothing to migrate. A tryout is a rubric, a player list and a weekend, so the cheapest way to compare the two is to run one here and see whether the ranking that falls out looks right to you.

  • Pick a starter rubric and adjust the stations, instead of rebuilding a template
  • Paste your player list, and age tags like "8U" get picked up for you
  • Evaluators score from an emailed link, with no app to get onto their phone
  • Retune the weights after you see the ranking, and preview it before you commit

The short answer

Use SkillShark if families expect a report card, if you want to track a player's progress across seasons, or if you evaluate a sport we don't cover. Under 25 players it's free forever, and it does things we don't do at any price.

Try InfieldHQ if your league is bigger than their free tier and you'd rather not add $5 an athlete to registration every year. At 150 players that's $750 annually against $50 for the month you actually evaluate, and your first two tryouts are free either way. Scores rank as they come in, you can retune the weights and preview the result before committing, and the teams you form from them have a schedule, lineups and a parent side in the same app.

Run your first tryout in about two minutes

A real multi-station tryout, scored on phones, with ranked results. Then form the teams and run the season in the same place. Your first two are free.
