Tryout software that doesn't stop at the tryout.

Tryouts happen a few weeks a year. TeamGenius bills you for twelve months anyway, starting at $1,050. InfieldHQ is $50 a month, you cancel between seasons, and your first two tryouts are free.

Your first two tryouts are free. Then $50 a month, cancel any time.

The InfieldHQ scoring screen on a phone: a player's hitting station with 1 to 5 rating scales for stance and setup, hand-eye contact, swing mechanics and more, each with a place to add a note.

InfieldHQ

by InfieldHQ

$50 a month, and only the months you run tryouts

A rec league or club that wants a real multi-station tryout this weekend, and wants the results to turn into teams in the same app that then runs the season.

See evaluations

TeamGenius

by TeamGenius

$1,050 a year for up to 150 athletes

A large multi-sport association that evaluates hundreds of athletes a year, wants video and lifetime player history, and has a budget line for it. The most complete evaluation product here.

SkillShark

by SkillShark

Free for 25 players, then $5 to $15 per athlete a year

A club that wants athlete report cards and progress tracking across 30-plus sports, and would rather pay per athlete than sign a four-figure contract.

Sports Evaluations

by Sports Evaluations

$5 to $9 per player, 150-player minimum

An organization where the tryout is politically fraught and the answer is to remove names entirely, or to fly in neutral evaluators. Nobody else here offers that.

Rizzler

by Rizzler Sports

$79 a month for the tier that includes tryouts

A travel or high-school program that wants pitch charting, box scores and AI-suggested lineups, with tryouts as one part of a bigger coaching tool.

Nobody runs tryouts twelve months a year

A rec league evaluates for a few weeks in February, and maybe again in August. Every product here except Rizzler bills you for the other ten months anyway. That's the part worth arguing about, more than the list price.

One February weekend, on us

Your first two tryouts are free, the whole thing: every station, every evaluator, the full roster. Most leagues get a season scored before they pay anything.

Then $50 for the month you used

Cancel when the tryout is done and start again next season. Your rubrics, your players and last season's results are waiting. Two tryout seasons a year is $100.

Against $750 to $1,050 a year

TeamGenius starts at $1,050 and 150 athletes is the ceiling of that plan. SkillShark and Sports Evaluations both land near $750 for 150 players. All three bill by the year.

Two things worth saying plainly. Rizzler bills monthly and cancels the same way we do, so against them this is $50 against $79 and nothing else. And SkillShark's free tier is genuinely free rather than a trial, so a tryout of 25 players or fewer costs nothing there, forever. Every other number on this page is a list price off that vendor's own pricing page, read on the date at the foot of this page.

Getting the tryout stood up

The week before, when somebody still has to build the thing.

SkillShark: Yes.
The free tier runs one real evaluation event for 25 players with two evaluators.
Sports Evaluations: No.
Priced in 25-player blocks against a 150-player minimum, so the smallest order is a real purchase.

A free tier and a 14-day Pro trial, but tryouts and evaluation events start on the $79 Club tier.

Tryout day

Cold hands, a dead spot in the parking lot, and a volunteer who has never seen the app.

What an evaluator has to install

InfieldHQ: Yes.
Nothing. They open the link from the email invite and score in the browser on whatever phone they brought.
TeamGenius: Yes.

Rizzler: Partly.
Web and iOS. No Android app is listed.

Scoring where there is no signal

TeamGenius: Partly.
Yes, but in the app rather than the browser, and only once the assessment has loaded. Pull down on any screen to sync when you are back.

Player check-in starts on the $10 All-Star tier.

Scheduling is part of the $9 Next Level tier. Check-in is not separately documented.

Keeping the tryout honest

Custom security levels and evaluator progress tracking. Names are shown to evaluators.
SkillShark: Partly.
Customizable security levels on the $15 Legend tier.
Sports Evaluations: Yes.
Evaluators never see a name. "Athletes are a number and a color", and you can buy neutral outside evaluators outright.

What it costs

A 150-player rec league, running a tryout weekend in February.

Entry price

InfieldHQ: $50 a month.
Flat, at any league size. Your first two tryouts are free, so most leagues score a full weekend before they pay anything.
TeamGenius: $1,050 a year.
Up to 150 athletes on the cheapest plan. $1,500 to 500, $2,900 to 1,000, $6,500 unlimited.
SkillShark: Free, then $5.
Free for your first 25 players. After that $5 per athlete a year, sold in blocks of 25.
Sports Evaluations: $750 minimum.
$5 per player on Basic against a 150-player minimum. $9 per player to customize the categories.
Rizzler: $79 a month.
Tryouts and evaluation events are Club-tier only. The free and $12.99 Pro tiers do not include them.

Paying for the ten months you are not running tryouts

InfieldHQ: You do not.
Cancel when the tryout is over, start again next season. Your rubrics, your players and last season’s results are still there when you come back.
TeamGenius: Yearly.
Billed by the year, by card or by invoice. A February tryout buys twelve months.
SkillShark: Yearly.
Per athlete, per year, auto-renewing at the anniversary.
Sports Evaluations: Per season.
Basic buys season-long access, still against the 150-player minimum.
Rizzler: Monthly.
Also monthly, and they say upgrade, downgrade or cancel whenever. The tryout features need the $79 tier.

Charges per athlete

InfieldHQ: None.
$50 is $50 at 40 players or at 1,000. No blocks, no bands, and no re-quote when the league grows.
TeamGenius: Banded.
Not per athlete, but the plan is capped by athlete count, so growing past 150 moves you to the $1,500 plan.
SkillShark: $5 to $15 each.
150 players is $750 a year at the entry tier, or $2,250 at Legend.
Sports Evaluations: $5 to $9 each.
150 players is $750 to $1,350. Their full-service option with on-site evaluators is $55 to $75 a player.
Rizzler: Capped.
No per-player fee, but Club caps you at 300 players and 20 teams.

What one tryout season actually costs

InfieldHQ: $0, then $50.
The first two tryouts are free. After that a February weekend is one month of setup and scoring, so $50. Two seasons a year is $100.
TeamGenius: $1,050.
The yearly plan, whatever the season length, and 150 athletes is the ceiling of it.
SkillShark: $750.
150 athletes at $5 each, billed annually.
Sports Evaluations: $750.
The 150-player minimum at $5 a player on Basic.
Rizzler: $79.
One month of Club, if you remember to cancel after the tryout.

What the others do better

Four things, and three of them are things we simply don't have.

Video of the athlete

TeamGenius captures video and photos at the station. SkillShark puts video in the report card and sells an AI swing score on top of it. We have scores and notes, and that's it. If you want to show a parent the swing rather than describe it, buy one of those. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

A report card the family reads

Both TeamGenius and SkillShark produce branded feedback reports for the athlete, and SkillShark does it on the free tier. Our results are for the people running the tryout. We publish nothing to parents. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

Development tracked across years

TeamGenius keeps lifetime evaluation history; SkillShark has progress and comparison reports; Rizzler turns every rating into a trend line. In InfieldHQ each tryout stands alone today. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

Taking the names off entirely

Sports Evaluations shows evaluators a number and a color, never a name, and will fly neutral evaluators to your field for $55 to $75 a player. If your tryout has a politics problem rather than a software problem, that is the actual answer and no feature list fixes it.

Every one of those is about the evaluation itself, and the evaluation is the part that already works with a clipboard. What breaks is the week after: the scores in a spreadsheet nobody can sort, teams built from a printout, and a season that starts in a different app from the one you just paid for. That's the part we built.

Where we're different

Three things that fall out of the tryout and the season being the same app.

The tryout isn't the last step

The players you just scored are the players you form teams from, and those teams play a schedule with lineups and attendance in the same place. No export, no second subscription, no re-typing a roster.

Offline, in the browser

Evaluators open the link in the invite email and score on whatever phone they brought. TeamGenius and SkillShark both have browser scoring too, but theirs is online only: to score in a dead spot they need a native app on every volunteer's phone. Ours queues in the same browser tab.

You can change your mind about the weights

Retune hitting against speed after you've seen the ranking, and preview exactly what that would do before you commit it. The rubric itself freezes when scoring opens, so the goalposts can't move mid-tryout.

Questions worth asking

What does it actually cost?

Your first two tryouts are free. After that it's $50 a month, flat at any league size, and you cancel between seasons. There's no per-athlete fee, so $50 is $50 whether you evaluate 40 players or a thousand.

How do I pay you?

We invoice you, or you send it by Venmo or PayPal. There's no checkout in the app yet, which also means there's no card on file and nothing to auto-renew. When you're done for the season, tell us and it stops.

What if I lose signal at the field?

Scores queue on the device and send themselves when signal comes back, including after half an hour in a dead spot. Nobody has to remember to sync anything.

Do my evaluators need accounts?

You invite them by email and they score from the link. There's no app to install and nothing for them to learn on the morning of.

Can I keep using SportsEngine or TeamSnap?

Yes, but we don't sync to them. TeamGenius and SkillShark both do, and if keeping your existing platform is non-negotiable, that's a real reason to pick one of them over us. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

Do you do other sports?

Softball and baseball. The starter rubrics go down to 8U. For hockey, soccer or the other twenty, TeamGenius and SkillShark cover them and we don't. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

Do I have to use the rest of InfieldHQ?

No. Creating a tryout sets your league and season up behind the scenes, and you can ignore all of it. Most people don't, because the teams are the reason they ran the tryout.
