InfieldHQ vs TeamGenius

$50 for the month you run tryouts.

TeamGenius is the most complete evaluation platform in youth sports, and it costs $1,050 a year before you evaluate anyone. Tryouts take a few weeks. We charge $50 for the month you actually use it, your first two tryouts are free, and the results turn into teams that play a season in the same app.

Your first two tryouts are free. Then $50 a month, cancel any time.

InfieldHQ

$50 a month, and only the months you run tryouts

A rec league or club that wants a real multi-station tryout this weekend, and wants the results to turn into teams in the same app that then runs the season.

TeamGenius

$1,050 a year for up to 150 athletes

A large multi-sport association that evaluates hundreds of athletes a year, wants video and lifetime player history, and has a budget line for it. The most complete evaluation product here.

What TeamGenius does better

Video and photos at the station

Evaluators capture video or pictures on the spot, and it lands on the player's profile. We have scores and notes. If you want to show a parent the swing instead of describing it, that's a real reason to buy TeamGenius. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

Branded report cards, and years of them

Feedback reports go out to families under your organization's brand, mid-season and end-of-season as well as at tryouts, and lifetime evaluation history tracks a player's development across seasons. We publish nothing to parents, and each of our tryouts stands alone. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

Twenty sports, and it syncs to your platform

Hockey, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball and the rest, with the teams you form syncing back into SportsEngine, TeamSnap or LeagueApps. We do softball and baseball, and we don't sync anywhere. (Want it in InfieldHQ? Tell us.)

Somebody whose job is your tryout

A Customer Success Manager from the $1,500 tier, dedicated and priority on Pro. We're small. You'll get a person by email, and that is not the same thing.

If your association runs hundreds of athletes through multi-sport evaluations every year and reports back to families as part of what they pay for, TeamGenius is built for exactly that and is worth its price. This page is for the rec league that isn't that.

Where the two part ways

Everything both do the same way, the rubric templates, player check-in and ranked results included, is on the full comparison.

Getting the tryout stood up

The week before, when somebody still has to build the thing.

Whether you can start without talking to anyone

InfieldHQ: Yes.
Sign up and build it. No sales call and no quote, and your first two tryouts do not ask for anything. Most coordinators are scoring a first player in about two minutes.
TeamGenius: Partly.
A 14-day trial for up to 20 players. Past that it is a yearly plan paid by card or by invoice.

Tryout day

Cold hands, a dead spot in the parking lot, and a volunteer who has never seen the app.

Scoring where there is no signal

InfieldHQ: Yes.
In the browser, with no app on anyone’s phone. Open the scoring link while you still have signal and it keeps going: scores queue on the device and send themselves when signal returns, including after half an hour in a dead spot.
TeamGenius: Partly.
Yes, but in the app rather than the browser, and only once the assessment has loaded. Pull down on any screen to sync when you are back.

Turning scores into a decision

Sunday night, when somebody has to publish a list and defend it.

Changing the weights after you see the ranking

InfieldHQ: Yes.
Retune the weights and preview the ranking that candidate would produce before you commit it. What you approve is exactly what applies.
TeamGenius: Partly.
Weights and scoring ranges are set on the template. No published preview-before-apply step.

A report card the family reads

InfieldHQ: No.
No. Results are for the people running the tryout. Nothing is published to parents.
TeamGenius: Yes.
Branded player evaluation and feedback reports, plus mid-season and end-of-season feedback.

Video and photos of the athlete

InfieldHQ: No.
No. Scores and notes only.
TeamGenius: Yes.
Capture video or pictures, and player profile photos.

Evaluation history across seasons

InfieldHQ: No.
No. Each tryout stands alone today.
TeamGenius: Yes.
Lifetime player evaluation history for tracking development.

What happens after the tryout

The part every evaluation-only product hands back to you.

Running the season the teams then play

InfieldHQ: Yes.
Schedule, attendance, batting order and field positions, the parent side, and walk-up songs. Same app, same login, no export step.
TeamGenius: No.
Not what it does. It syncs the teams out to SportsEngine, TeamSnap or LeagueApps and you run the season there.

What it costs

A 150-player rec league, running a tryout weekend in February.

Entry price

InfieldHQ: $50 a month.
Flat, at any league size. Your first two tryouts are free, so most leagues score a full weekend before they pay anything.
TeamGenius: $1,050 a year.
Up to 150 athletes on the cheapest plan. $1,500 to 500, $2,900 to 1,000, $6,500 unlimited.

Paying for the ten months you are not running tryouts

InfieldHQ: You do not.
Cancel when the tryout is over, start again next season. Your rubrics, your players and last season’s results are still there when you come back.
TeamGenius: Yearly.
Billed by the year, by card or by invoice. A February tryout buys twelve months.

Charges per athlete

InfieldHQ: None.
$50 is $50 at 40 players or at 1,000. No blocks, no bands, and no re-quote when the league grows.
TeamGenius: Banded.
Not per athlete, but the plan is capped by athlete count, so growing past 150 moves you to the $1,500 plan.

What one tryout season actually costs

InfieldHQ: $0, then $50.
The first two tryouts are free. After that a February weekend is one month of setup and scoring, so $50. Two seasons a year is $100.
TeamGenius: $1,050.
The yearly plan, whatever the season length, and 150 athletes is the ceiling of it.

Whether it fits your league at all

The questions that rule a product out before any feature matters.

Sports it covers

InfieldHQ: Partly.
Softball and baseball. The starter rubrics are built for them, down to 8U.
TeamGenius: Yes.
Over 20 sports, and they publish serving 700-plus organizations.

Phones it runs on

InfieldHQ: Coming.
iPhone today, and any phone through the browser, which is how evaluators score. The Android app lands before September.
TeamGenius: Yes.
iOS and Android apps, plus a web scoring app.

Who you call when it breaks on tryout morning

InfieldHQ: Partly.
Email us. We are small, and you will get a person, but there is no dedicated success manager.
TeamGenius: Yes.
Email support from a Customer Success Manager on Starter+, dedicated and priority on Pro.
The InfieldHQ evaluations page on a computer: an open 12U tryout with a readiness strip (three sessions, 20 players, seven evaluators, all six stations covered), a scoring-is-open banner, and the schedule of tryout sessions.

Switching

Start with the tryout you were about to run

There's no import from TeamGenius and no migration to plan, because there's nothing to migrate: a tryout is a rubric, a player list and a weekend. Build the next one here and see whether the ranking that comes out looks like the one you'd have paid for.

  • Pick a starter rubric and adjust the stations, instead of rebuilding a template
  • Paste your player list, and age tags like "8U" get picked up for you
  • Invite your evaluators by email, and they score from the link with nothing installed
  • Retune the weights after you see the ranking, and preview it before you commit

The short answer

Stay with TeamGenius if families expect a report card, if you need video or multi-season development history, if you run sports we don't cover, or if the teams have to land back in SportsEngine. It does all of that and we do none of it, and $1,050 is a fair price for a league that uses all four.

Try InfieldHQ if you evaluate for a few weeks and then not again until next season, and paying twelve months for that has always felt wrong. Your first two tryouts are free, it's $50 a month after that, and you cancel when the weekend is over. Evaluators score from a link on their own phone, results rank as they come in, and the teams you build from them play a schedule in the same app.

Run your first tryout in about two minutes

A real multi-station tryout, scored on phones, with ranked results. Then form the teams and run the season in the same place. Your first two are free.
